Basketball Ireland Men’s Superleague – Templeogue vs Garvey Tralee Warriors

1

Fancy something different for Saturday night in Dublin?

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors take on Templeogue at the Oblate Hall in Inchicore this Saturday 24th November at 8pm in a highly anticipated show-down in the Men’s Superleague. Templeogue are currently second place in the League with Tralee just behind them in joint third. The sides met each other just over three weeks ago in the National Cup with Tralee causing an upset knocking Templeogue, the reigning champions, out of that competition.

Some Kerry Association members have decided to go along to cheer on Kieran Donaghy and the rest of the Tralee team. A great family spectacle too; if any of you would like to join us, just drop us an email (info@kerryassociation.ie). Tickets are €7 (€3 for students and under 16s) and are payable on entry. The match starts at 8pm but it is important to be there at least half an hour beforehand if you want a seat!

“Mind the Voice” is a unique gift that carries with it a deep sense of people, place and parting. The Card / Gift combination, priced at €15 consists of:

– A custom-designed book mark adding a touch of personality to the offering
– A CD with the poems in spoken word format with some “sing a long“ tunes
The musical arrangements are by Derek Cremin of Shabby Road Studios in Dublin. Each poem comes with a beautifully crafted art image/photo with works by the American artist Emily T Andress, Listowel’s Olive Stack, Tarbert’s Johnny Mulvihill, Belfast’s Shane McVicker, and Athea’s Jim Dunn. All the artists have given of their time and work on a pro bono basis.

Who will succeed the Special Olympics Clubs of Kerry as Laochra Chiarraí?

The search for Kerry Person of the Year 2019 and Laochra Chiarraí 2019 has begun and nominations are now being accepted!

Please email your nominations to info@kerryassociation.ie noting why the person or group are deserving of the awards. The individual and group selected must have shown leadership, brought honour to and performed community, charitable or other services to such an extent that could be described as being beyond the norm of everyday life. We look forward to hearing from you!

The winners will be announced in January and will be formally presented with their awards at our gala dinner in Dublin on Saturday 30th March 2019.

Ballroom Dancing – Portobello, South Richmond Street (Portobello Bridge) – 8pm

3

The Kerry Association is going dancing again…..

A New Year. A New Start.

Do you like dancing and would you like to get more practice?
Or maybe you can’t dance, but would like to?

Well Pádraig the Dancer might be the answer. Pádraig Munroe, a native of Mayo, hosts a number of weekly dancing classes all over Ireland.

Last year, Pádraig hosted a most enjoyable 5-week jiving course for the Kerry Association and 40 of us packed into Rain Nightclub under the Portobello Pub each week.

We are pleased to announce that Pádraig will be re-joining us in January. The plan is to run a 10 week course on Tuesdays from Tuesday 8th January with a break for mid-term on Tuesday 19th February and concluding on Tuesday 26th March. However, attendees will have the option of signing up just for the 5 weeks until the mid-term break if they wish.

As well as jiving, Pádraig will cover waltz, quickstep and foxtrot for the second five weeks. The cost is €60 for each block of 5 weeks and the classes will be held from 8pm to 9.30pm.

On-street parking is available by the canal. Buses serving the Portobello : 14, 14A, 15, 15A, 15B, 15C, 65B, 83.

So whether you are a complete beginner or would like to brush up, we would really love to see you there. There is a minimum required number of attendees so to get these classes up and running we need your support. We want all ages both male and female. Please let us know if you are interested.

Oíche Chiarraí 2019 – Saturday 30th March 2019

4

2019 is a special year in the history of our annual flagship event, Oíche Chiarraí, as it marks 40 years since the first Kerry Person of the Year, Dr. Michael Carmody, was awarded the accolade back in 1979. To celebrate this occasion, we have selected a venue for 2019 that goes right back to the origins of the Kerry Association in Dublin. The initial and fundamental objective of the Kerry Association in Dublin was to welcome and entertain Kerry teams and their supporters on the occasion of major games in Croke Park. This year our Gala Dinner will take place in the Premium Suite in Croke Park Stadium on Saturday evening, 30th March.

The recipients of the Kerry Person of the Year award for 2019 and the 2019 group award, Laochra Chiarraí, will be formally presented with their awards that night.

Always a fantastic night, be sure to save the date for what promises to be a wonderful Kerry celebration and don’t forget to tell your friends!

We have also block booked rooms for the night in the Croke Park Hotel across the road from the venue. €219 for a single room / €249 for a double or twin. To book please call the Croke Park Hotel directly on (01) 871 4444 and quote BOOK300319 to avail of these Kerry Association rates.

Saturday 30th March is also the eve of the 2019 Allianz League Football Final in Croke Park. Who knows who might be in Croke Park the next day?

Friday 4th – Sunday 6th October 2019
